World Broadcasting was owned by Decca during this period and, as part of Decca’s agreement with the AFM that nded the musician’s union strike - at least as far as Decca was concerned - many recordings eventually given Decca master numbers and issued on the label were initially recorded for and issued on World Transcriptions. In the case of the four songs listed above, however, the World versions and those issued on Decca were different recordings, and in the absence of other evidence it is assumed that the versions used on World derive from the above session.

For June he has two tunes which he composed, SIERRA SERENADE and JUKE JOINT MAMA. Darling writes from Jamaica, N.Y.: “Just had a wonderful week-end with our mutual friend Smiley Burnette. He and I were together on the air before he went with Autry, years ago at WDZ in Tuscola, Ill.”
It is possible that the above version of SIERRA SERENADE is the version used on World Transcription W-27-A (41497).

*Billboard dated 11th December 1943 reviews De Luxe 5000 “PISTOL PACKIN’ MAMA”/“PUT YOUR ARMS AROUND ME, HONEY” as follows - Still another new recording label makes its appearance with the lifting of the Petrillo music ban, this one offered up by De Luxe Record Company, of Linden, N.J. And since the initial issue of the company couples the leaders in the hillbilly hiy parade, and presented by Tex Grande and His Range Riders in the musical and vocal style identified with folk tune treatment, it appears that this new label intends to devote its efforts primarily to American folk tunes. With interest in such words and music already getting much stimulation, plus the fact that the mechanical reproduction for this first pairing is in high order, the new De Luxe holds much promise in such record circles. With a toe-tapping rhythmic beat act by guitar and string bass, and the clarinet, trumpet, and violin providing the background and solo interludes in good order, the Range Riders also ear-pleasing voices, both male and female and ensemble, to make both sides thoroly enjoyable. “PISTOL PACKIN’ MAMA” is taken at a lively tempo, keeping close to the Al Dexter text in the singing. Boy and girl singers alternate on the verses, with the ensemble harmonizing the “lay that pistol down” passages interspersed with instrumental choruses that put the hot fiddler in the spotlight. In the same lively tempo, “PUT YOUR ARMS AROUND ME, HONEY” spins brightly. The male singer handles the opening chorus, with three instrumental soloists splitting the second stanza. The girl singer, bordering on the Bonnie Baker- baby voiced style, makes for an attractive chorus on the third round, while the harmony trio gets a fourth chorus under way with a solo male voice handling the middle strains of the song and the hot fiddler scratching out the last half of the chorus to complete the side. While the field is now being flooded with wax impressions of both these hit songs, the sales appeal of these sides stacks up strong for the folk tune fans. It even shapes up effectively as music machine material at phono locations in the rural communities where they take their songs and music straight and not conditioned by the strength of the artist’s on the sticker. **DECCA 6094 reviewed in Billboard on the 5th February 1944 - It’s always dusting off the welcome mat when Denver Darling is on deck again on the disks with his Texas Cowboys. Paricularly with such song material as offered up in these mated sides. Al Dexter’s ROSALITA, which shared the PISTOL PACKIN’MAMA sensation, has already attained the popularity heights. And with Denver Darling’s side now, should help this serenade to the rancho lady retain those heights in popular appeal. Darling handles the ditty at a lively tempo, singing in the true western style to the accompaniment of his capable string band. Plattermate is even more striking, being a take-off on PISTOL PACKIN’ MAMA, It’s a natural as a hillbilly novelty and should carve a comfortable niche for itself in handy fashion and in short order. ***De Luxe 5003 reviewed in Billboard 1st April 1944 - From the regular Tin Pan Alley folios Tex Grande and His Range Riders whip together a pair of pops that lends themselves admirably to the hillbilly style of syncopation and song. I’M SENDING X’s TO A GIRL IN TEXAS which made a bid for song popularity about a year ago, is one of those infectious chants with a prairie flavour which is very much pronounced in the singing and playing of the Grande gang. At a lively tempo, a solo baritone and male quartet hold up the lyrical end well, with toe-tapping instrumental support provided by an effective group comprising of fiddle, trumpet, accordion and guitars. Going back a few decades or so, Grande comes up with THE HONEY SONG, which also made a bid for revival about a year ago. Also taken at a bright and lively pace, a girl singer and male trio share the singing chores, spaced by an instrumental stanza. Dance appeal in Western circles is also high for both of these sides. De Luxe 5003 re-reviewed in Billboard on 10th June 1944 - Plenty of action and rhythm in I’M SENDING X’s in both the vocal and instrumental portions. Latter exceptionally good for the dancers, and the vocals have the flavour and tempo liked by hillbilly addicts. The HONEY SONG hasn’t the appeal of the other side, but it’s lively and the girl singer and her male support are first rate. Both sides should go well on the boxes in spots where hillbilly and Westerns are popular. De Luxe 5005 reviewed in Billboard on 20th May 1944 - Tex Grande rings the bell with a resounding smack for both of these sides. The mixed voices of the quartet harmonize expertly for DON’T SWEETHEART ME, with a bright rhythmic beat added by the accompanying troupe of Range Riders and the hot trumpet and fiddle making the instrumental chorus count. Also taken at a bright tempo, and with the singers in good style, is Al Dexter’s popular TOO LATE TO WORRY, TOO BLUE TO CRY. Both sides also styled for maximum play in the coin-operated phonos. De Luxe 5005 re-reviewed in Billboard on 3rd June 1944 - A pair of tunes for the jukes, the SWEETHEART ditty having just the proper lilt, and the other a not too lugubrious sentimentality. Excellent harmonizing in both numbers, but effectiveness of the recording is lessened, from a hillbilly standpoint, by the tricked up instrumental arrangements. Would be more acceptable if played straight. There’s no place for a hot trumpet in a hillbilly tune. Billboard report on 15th April 1944 - Denver Darling, radio cowboy singer was featured in a Radio Cavalcade presented Easter week-end in Trenton, N.J., at the War Memorial Stage, Matinee and evening shows were staged both Saturday and Sunday (8th and 9th). **** Billboard dated 7th April 1945 stated that Folk artists all over the country are featuring a new song by Nelson Cogane, Dick Robertson and Lee David. SEND THIS PURPLE HEART TO MY SWEETHEART, published by Rytvoc, Inc, and the song is going to play a part in the rehabilitation of our wounded veterans. It has been dedicated to the Military rder of the Purple Heart and the publisher is contributing a royalty to the order for the duration of the copyright.“After visiting hospitals and seeing our wounded,” writes Deanna Bartlett, “we have pledged ourselves to go all out on the song so that we turn over our large quarterly checks. This royalty will be used for the rehabilation of wounded veterans. We take our hats off to the folk artists all over the country. We covered all of them with copies and the mail response and co-operation has been wonderful. Jesse Rogers of WFIL, Philadelphia, started the song and is doing a terrific job on it; not only in his fan mail but in the orders he has created. I have received a lot of letters from folk artists who write that they are telling their listeners about the royalty and urge them to buy their copies. It’s swell of them, because to date the Military Order of the Purple Heart has nearly 500,000 members in nearly 300 chapterd throughout the country .” --- Billboard reported on 4th August 1945 that Denver Darling back on WNEW. Darling who has been freelancing for the past seven months during which time he has been heard on the Ivory soap jingles on the daytime series RIGHT to HAPPINESS, LIFE CAN BE BEAUTIFUL, and ROAD to HAPPINESS returned to WNEW, New York, July 16th, in a program of folk and Western tunes. On the new series, heard Monday thru Friday, Darling will sing songs dealing with famous folk characters and will be accompanied by Merle Pitts WNEW Ork. --- Billboard stated on the 18th August 1945 that Denver Darling’s recording of Rytvoc’s song, SEND THIS PURPLE HEART TO MY SWEETHEART, will be released August 16th. This is Denver’s first record release in about 20 months. Rytvoc is turning over a substantial royalty on the song to the Order of the Purple Heart and Darling also is turning over his first pressing royalty check to the order.--- Billboard reviewed DECCA 6111 on 20th October 1945 as followes-Denver Darling tugs at the heartstrings in singing SEND THIS PURPLE HEART TO MY SWEETHEART, a natural for outdoor folk who seek a tear in a tune. The cowboy is in good voice and sings it at a bright tempo to make it more appealing. CONVERSATION, also provides Denver Darling with ample opportunity to display his sympathetic understanding of the brave soldier getting religion in a fox-hole. *****Deluxe 5019 & De Luxe 5020 reviewed in Billboard - 18th January 1947 - Singing each of these Western ditties in rousing fashion, Denver Darling rings the bell on every count. In A DOLLAR AIN’T A DOLLAR ANYMORE, Denver has a timely and attractive novelty. Male trio joins in for the singing of the choruses, with the accompanying string band providing spirited and throughroly toe-tapping support. Also in breezy fashion, and spinning with contagion as the vocal sells the wordage, is DING DONG POLKA, to which the threesome add a lick of yodelling in harmony. Ditty itself holds much melodic and lyrical appeal, the song story referring to wedding bells that are ringing for someone else. Denver singings it alone and with the male trio for a bouncy and catchy I’M GONNA LEAVE THIS OLD TOWN, spinning instrumentally and vocally in tiptop fashion. More reserved, but just as effective, is the pretty I’LL SAY YOUR NAME IN MY PRAYER, the spinning along smooth and sweet lines. Music ops can well chalk up all of these sides for the phone selectors.
